According to the State media monitored in Banjul on Friday 9th October Lt. General Lang Tombong Tamba has been removed from his position as Chief Of Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces with immediate effect.  Citing a release from the Office of the President issued on Friday, it was revealed that the former Chief of Staff is being replaced by Major General Masaneh Kinteh who was his deputy.  As usual there is no official reasons give n for the cause of the surprise removal.  The easy-going L. General Tamba who is also a sports enthusiast and official of the Gambia Football Association is seen by many as the human face of an otherwise brutal institution.  He has over the past 18 months being the beneficiary of many promotions in military ranking and is the first Lt. General in the history of the Gambian military. Major General Kinteh is the first non-Jola speaking boss of the army under Jammeh’s rule.

I check the net everyday to get news of General Tamba's release. The general is one fine Gambian that people who have met him have so much respect for. I met him in Sierra Leone when he was working for UMAMSIL. He is very loyal, inteligent and decent.I pray and hope every day for the president to see reasons to release him unharm back to the people.

President Jammeh is hurting so many people all over by still keeping the general in prison. PLS Mr President, FREE GENERAL TAMBA.
