THE GAMBIA JOURNAL MISSION STATEMENT
We want to take this opportunity to introduce to you The Gambia Journal, is a CIVIC EDUCATION web casting Organization based in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Gambia Journal has no political affiliation with any political organization and would, as a matter of strict principle, refuse to be used by any person or group as a means to achieving political ends.

We shall endeavor to expose all forms of human rights abuses in the Gambia, Africa and the world at large. Such campaigns shall take the form of human rights education programs, seminars, public talk lectures, workshops, lobbying, media briefings and appeal letter writings.
As events unfold in The Gambia, The Gambia Journal would seek to uphold and report the truth without any fear or favors, knowing that only the truth can lead us to eventual redemption as a nation. Hence, the need for accurate and meticulous recording, reporting and documentation of events as they overtake each other in this critical phase of our history. We hope this record of our contemporary history will serve as a reference source for posterity, concerned Gambians and friends of the country, scholars and researchers. They all will now find an ever-growing wealth of accurate information, objectively commented upon and professionally presented in the archives of the Gambia Journal.
The Gambia is our common wealth; hence it is incumbent upon us all to make it a better place for ourselves, our children and for future generations. The twenty first century promises to be the era of liberated peoples, developing communities and free individuals; Nothing can ultimately stop these great currents even if our dear country, like many others in Africa, continue to linger under the tutelage of tyranny, greed, illegitimate power and arrogance. Recent advances in science and technology have provided us with new methods of ferreting out and spreading forth the truth that shall make us free.
Our small contribution to national development shall be in line with the provisions of our national constitution: "to create and sustain within society an awareness of the principles and objectives of the Constitution as the fundamental law of The Gambia; to educate and encourage the public to defend the Constitution against all forms of abuse and violence; to formulate, implement and oversee programs aimed at inculcating in the citizens of The Gambia awareness of their civic and fundamental rights, duties and responsibilities and to educate the citizens of The Gambia about international, regional, and sub-regional matters relevant to The Gambia." (Section 199 (a), (b), (d) and (e), Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, 1997).
THE GAMBIA JOURNAL will seek to provide much needed political education through the sponsorship of civic education radio programs broadcast in English and the local languages. We shall also endeavor to sponsor radio programs dealing with Women's Rights in Democracy, Divorce and Domestic Violence, Women's Rights in Islam, and Women's role in National Development, among other areas. It is part of our plans to publish a monthly Magazine call the Gambia Confidential reporting on developments concerning the laws of The Gambia, and their conformity to international human rights instruments and standards with other top secret information.
Since a sustainable pursuance of this venture depends on the availability of resources, the above statement begs the question, where will the resources come from? WE are hoping on contributions from people like you who have taken your time to visit this our site. We will also depend on incomes from advertisements services, donations and various sponsorships.
Lord, we pray that if this site is going to serve as a time capsule for our future scholars, may they find in it more Gambians who have genuinely pledged their firm allegiance to our motherland Gambia, protect and uphold the Gambian virtues of honesty, respect and integrity.
Our ultimate aim is to make THE GAMBIA JOURNAL the best source of information on The Gambia available on the net. May we be among those who will uphold The Gambia’s honor. Once again, welcome to The Gambia Journal.
